The Single Biggest Mistake Each MCU Film And TV Show Has Made
14. Black Widow - The Laughable Villains
Honestly, it was a mistake on Marvel Studios' part to do this film in the first place, as this sort-of prequel set between Captain America: Civil War and Infinity War arrived at least two years too late to make any sense, but to be fair, this could've worked with a better script, Unfortunately, that's not what this movie got, and it's understandably become one of the most maligned MCU films so far.
Black Widow makes quite a few mistakes all across the board, mainly in the writing department (though that hideous CGI also lingers in the memory), and its worst blunder was arguably the villains.
The main villain Dreykov (Ray Winstone) is appalling. He feels like some dreadful Bond villain parody who accidentally wandered into a Marvel film, and Winstone gives one of the worst Russian accents you'll ever hear, while the film's interpretation of Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) is similarly underwhelming. This much-anticipated villain was completely wasted here, and the twist as to who was underneath the mask (someone who Black Widow thought she'd killed as a child) felt lazy.
As said before, the past 'Villain Problem' criticisms always felt wildly unfair, but with all the garbage antagonists we've seen throughout Phases 4 and 5, it's safe to say that the MCU now has a real Villain Problem - and it really started with this movie.
