The Single Biggest Mistake Each MCU Film And TV Show Has Made

13. What If... ? - The Complete Misuse Of The Show's Intriguing Concept

What If... ? was a catastrophe from top to bottom, mainly because it rarely if ever realized the huge potential of its concept.

The show would've worked had its episodes had narratives that changed the storylines of different characters in thought-provoking ways. Sadly, the only one which bothered to do this was episode seven, which did feature an interesting alternate narrative in which Tony Stark never underwent his character change or became Iron Man. That right there was an intriguing 'What If?', but that's not what the other episodes had at all.

Who gives a toss if T'Challa got kidnapped instead of Peter Quill? Or if Captain Carter was the first Avenger instead of Steve Rogers? That's right, no-one.

Furthermore, instead of telling stories where one change altered the course of the story in an interesting way, these stories were all completely different, with many stupid narratives and none of the characters acting like themselves at all. As such, most of these episodes felt like garbage fan-fiction stories that weren't only poorly-paced and written, but assassinated most of the characters.

In particular, that ridiculous, disgustingly over-praised Doctor Strange episode was a disasterpiece of character-assassinating awfulness.

The animation was strong and so was the voice acting, but other than that, it is strongly advised that you skip this one. This is arguably the worst film or show in the history of the MCU. Yes, even worse than She-Hulk - more on that very shortly though.
