The Single Biggest Mistake Each MCU Film And TV Show Has Made

11. Eternals - The Terrible, Potential-Wasting Screenplay

Eternals is a strange one. Even ignoring the greatness suggested by the stacked cast and Oscar-winning director at the helm, if you read a summary of the film's story it's likely that you'd be pretty impressed. This is a feature full of great ideas, and on paper, it sounds awesome. On paper.

Unfortunately, thanks to how bad the screenplay is, very little of this potential is realized. The film's story is delivered in such a flat, emotionless way that it's nigh-on impossible to get remotely invested in anything that's going on. Similarly, the ensemble cast, clearly unsure of what to do with such an under-developed and one-note grouping of characters, mostly give uncharacteristically bland performances.

It's mostly thanks to this flat screenplay that Eternals became the first MCU film to get a Rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes - yes, both Iron Man 2 and Thor: The Dark World have fresh scores on the site for some stupid reason - and this is arguably the worst film in Phase 4, which is really saying something.
