The Single Biggest Mistake Each MCU Film Has Made

6. Thor: Ragnarok: Too Much Comedy

The Movie:

By far the MCU's over-praised film, this does have great visuals, performances and some good jokes, but it's destined to hold up incredibly poorly given the complete lack of a compelling plot or memorable action.

Thor: Ragnarok is a comedy through and through. There's nothing wrong with comedy, but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.

Thor: Ragnarok is so focused on being goofy and jokey that it forgets to do anything else. The action is mediocre, the plot is instantly forgettable nonsense and, worst of all, there is literally no pathos here at all.

It's a film where Thor loses his father and where his home-world is destroyed, as well as a film where he finally has to rule his people, yet there's no emotional hook whatsoever. Odin's death is meaningless (although at least Anthony Hopkins doesn't have to pretend to care anymore), Cate Blanchett's Hela is devoid of menace and nothing about feels dramatically involving. In other words, it's a completely meaningless experience.

It might have been acclaimed back when it was released, but this one is destined for a backlash in the future. Since it's so heavy on comedy (which is probably the genre of film with the least re-watchablity factor) but so light on anything else that the film will not endure on subsequent viewings at all.

Fix:

Come up with memorable action and a bit more emotional investment to balance the movie out.
