The Movie:

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is great! Why wasn't it more popular?

While over-the-top and excessive, it's also arguably the funniest MCU film, it's definitely the most visually stunning and the opening with Baby Groot dancing is one of the best movie opening scenes Ever.

GOTG 2 is generally excellent, but it also does feel like a bit too much at times. With so many pop songs, so many jokes and so many cameos, the film runs out of gas slightly by the end and eventually exhausts itself a little.

The film is filled to the brim with wonderful moments, with Baby Groot dancing to Electric Light Orchestra's 'Mr. Blue Sky' and the huge Yondu's arrow set piece in particular being two of the best MCU scenes ever, but it can be tiring. There are only so many clever jokes one can take and also, thanks to the endless stream of zany humor, the film isn't as tense as it might've been.

It would've been much appreciated if James Gunn had reined himself in just a bit. Another lesson the MCU can learn from GOTG 2 is that one or two post-credits scenes are a key part of the franchise's traditions, but five post-credit scenes is too much. That shouldn't be repeated.

Fix:

Tone certain elements down a tiny bit and also trim the run-time. That way, the film wouldn't have run out of gas (to some extent) towards the end.
