The Single Biggest Mistake Each Star Wars Movie Has Made

2. The Last Jedi - The Canto Bight Subplot

Star Wars Revenge Of The Sith

The Last Jedi has sadly been completely overshadowed by the awful backlash from the abhorrent hive of toxicity, misogyny and bullying that exists within the Star Wars fanbase, meaning it's sometimes easy to forget just how strong the film mostly is. Take away the controversies and you've got a dazzling, moving, rich and brilliantly made blockbuster and the finest Star Wars film since The Empire Strikes Back.

Still, there was one complaint that was absolutely spot-on and that's the scenes set on Canto Bight. No-one liked those scenes and they get worse and worse with each re-watch. This subplot is drawn-out, tedious, filled with contrivances and also gets bewilderingly silly (especially with the Fathier chase), which clashes terribly with the film's mostly dark tone. Additionally, Benicio Del Toro was criminally wasted.

It's understandable that writer-director Rian Johnson wanted to show more of the wider Star Wars galaxy, since the stunning locations have always been one of the big draws of Star Wars, but this wasn't the right way to do it. At all.

Still a great movie though.
