The Single Biggest Mistake Every James Bond Film Has Made

15. The Spy Who Loved Me: The Dull Villain

The Man With The Golden Gun Ending
United Artists

The Spy Who Loved Me is an absolutely excellent, albeit silly, entry into the franchise and definitely the best of the hit-or-miss Roger Moore era. It's also yet another example of a largely strong Bond film which gets most of the formula's elements right, but lost it regarding one particular element.

With The Spy Who Loved Me, the action scenes, gadgets, Bond Girl, henchman, title song and plot-line are all absolutely spot-on, but the main villain, Karl Stromberg (Curd Jurgens), is a bit of a bore. His scheme is entertainingly mad, but he himself is flat and uncharismatic.

Still, this is the movie that introduces the legendary Jaws (Richard Kiel), one of the all-time Bond henchmen, so this inadequate main villain is at least counter-balanced by that.
