The Single Biggest Mistake Every James Bond Film Has Made

21. Thunderball: The Blackmail Scene

Sometimes, in a film, there are scenes so awful that they completely overshadow the rest of the movie. This early scene in Thunderball, in which James Bond casually rapes a woman, is a great example of this.

After an attempt on his life in a clinic, Bond blackmails the masseuse (Molly Peters) on duty (who he'd already forcibly kissed earlier on) into having sex with him in exchange for not telling her superiors about what's just happened. As it should go without saying, this scene is completely hideous in every possible way and one of the most misogynistic James Bond movie moments ever (that is seriously, seriously saying something too).

Looking on the bright side, it's not like this scene was casting a shadow over a great movie anyhow. Thunderball is definitely the weakest Bond film of the 1960s and while it's perfectly enjoyable, it's ultimately forgettable and has far too many water-based set-pieces.
