The Snowman Review: 1 Up & 9 Downs

7. Michael Fassbender's Flat Lead Performance

The Snowman Michael Fassbender

As the recent Alien movies have proven, Michael Fassbender is generally one of the better aspects of any film he's in, but unfortunately even his talents are basically for nought here, in what's surely his most lifeless and low-effort performance in years.

Perhaps the actor is trying to play Harry Hole as stoic and worn-down, but he miscalculates it somewhere, and ultimately creates a relatively unlikeable dullard of a protagonist, which is the last thing you want in a movie with clear franchise potential.

Fassbender isn't going totally off-piste like Val Kilmer, but he's arguably going one worse by basically phoning it in and not acting like he cares at all.
