The Snowman Review: 1 Up & 9 Downs
3. The Climax Is Totally Unsatisfying
The Snowman's third act is where things go totally off the rails. Firstly, the killer reveal is extremely underwhelming, because it's not only totally obvious from a mile off, but the killer's motives are also eye-rollingly on-the-nose.
Then there's the final confrontation itself, which comes to an hilariously abrupt end in pretty much the most unsatisfying way possible: a deus ex machina which drains the sequence of the little tension it had managed to build.
While Nesbo can obviously be faulted for these moments being drawn from his book, Alfredson sadly hasn't made much of an attempt to make them any more plausible for the cinematic medium.
