The Snowman Review: 1 Up & 9 Downs

2. It's A Major Disappointment From Director Tomas Alfredson

Watching this movie, it's hard to conceive that it's from the very same filmmaker who gave audiences masterworks such as Let the Right One In and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Tomas Alfredson is clearly an incredibly talented director, but as happens to so many acclaimed art-house filmmakers, he's been swallowed up by the Hollywood sausage factory and spat out the other side.

Sure, Alfredson should've vetted the script more heavily before signing on, but even his direction, which is often lifeless and badly-edited, feels decidedly lacking regardless of the narrative.

Every filmmaker has their stumbles, so hopefully this is just a one-off trainwreck for Alfredson, and won't discourage him from getting back in the saddle ASAP.
