The Spectacular Spider-Man: 11 Biggest Mistakes It Needs To Avoid

1. Planning Sequels Before The First Movie Succeeds

If Sony's Spider-Man movies have made anything clear, it's that planning too far ahead based on previous successes can make everyone look foolish. The studio was so happy with The Amazing Spider-Man's box office grosses that they set release dates for the third and fourth movies in the franchise shortly after ASM2 started filming, seemingly confident that they had a winner on their hands. As it turned out, the movie underwhelmed in every way possible, and those plans were eventually scuppered following Sony's new deal with Marvel Studios. It's an exceedingly common practice these days for studios to prep release dates for projected sequels before the previous films land, but hopefully after the hubris Sony demonstrated with the property last time, the new collaboration won't be quite so sure that the Spider-Man property is critic-proof. Hopefully they'll focus on making one good Spider-Man movie first, throw him in the Avengers: Infinity War movies, and then look at making The Spectacular Spider-Man 2 around 2020/2021.
