The Suicide Squad: 22 WTF Moments

20. Captain Boomerang Dies Before The Opening Credits

The Suicide Squad Harley Quinn
Warner Bros.

The not-so-surprising "twist" of the film's opening sequence is that we're initially watching Amanda Waller's (Viola Davis) "Team 1," comprised of Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courteney), Blackguard (Pete Davidson), The Detachable Kid (Nathan Fillion), Mongal (Mayling Ng), Javelin (Flula Borg), Savant, and Weasel.

Blackguard gets shot in the face after attempting to sell the rest of the Suicide Squad out, and the rest of the low-key members of the team get wiped out in an array of creatively grisly ways.

But Harley and Boomerang are safe, right? Not quite.

Shockingly, Boomerang is also killed in the opening sequence, when Mongal leaps onto an enemy helicopter, causing it to crash, with Boomerang getting sliced up by the rotor blades.

Hilariously, Boomerang is dead before Jai Courtney's name has even appeared in the opening credits, though the credits do give us a glorious departing shot of his severed arm proudly holding his boomerang aloft.

Dealing such a brutal death scene to a returning character mere minutes into this standalone sequel set a vibe of ruthless unpredictability from the outset. You love to see it.
