The Wolf Of Wall Street: 5 Things We Learned From The Fast-Paced Trailer

1. Martin Scorsese Joyfully Returns

Freak OutHugo is a great film in which Scorsese displays not only his ability as a director in his embracing of new technology but also a deep love of film. For the fans of Scorsese€™s grittier work it was definitely a departure. You have to go back all the way to 2006 before we hit great and arguably classic Scorsese with The Departed. The guns, the violence and, most importantly, the tension made for an engrossing and fulfilling experience; not to mention finally getting him that long-overdue Oscar. Despite the brevity of the trailer, the film looks to be a wild ride. The trailer only hints at the FBI investigation and gives merely one fleeting shot of the mob involvement, but still manages to convey an overall sense of menacing excitement. With this first look, the trailer does everything that it should do by giving us just enough to entice without really telling us much. The film seems full of action, drama and hints at a deep struggle for DiCaprio€™s Belfort, not to mention glimpses of a darkly comedic tone that Scorsese can deftly handle. Whether or not you support the adrenaline infused nature of the trailer, it€™s hard to deny that it€™s nice to have a Scorsese film coming to theaters this year, and he looks just as happy to be back.

BONUS Leo Will Raise His Glass

Raise Glass When Leonardo DiCaprio has a glass of wine, he will smugly raise it to you. It€™s just what he does.

Derek was the only engineer at Northeastern University taking a class on German film and turning a sociology assignment into an examination of Scorsese’s work. He blatantly abuses his Netflix account, but can never seem to get his Instant Queue below 200. Now working for the government, he fights the stigma that being good at math means you are not any no good at writing. I good write, very much. Follow Derek on Twitter @DerekDeskins.
