The Wolf Of Wall Street: 5 Things We Learned From The Fast-Paced Trailer

2. Full-On 90s Excess

Excess The 80s seem to get all the credit when it comes to rampant excess, but the 90s sure did have its fair share of overspending. Despite the 1987 stock market crash and an early 1990s recession, between 1991 and 2001, the United States experienced its longest economic expansion. Of course, this would come to a halt with the popping of the Dot-com bubble followed closely by the ever worsening recession crunch of the 2000s. The mid 90s were a time in America that fully embraced the lightening of a heavy wallet. The 90s excess is on full display in the trailer. Power suits are adorned like uniforms. The alcohol flows like water and yes, Leo even makes it rain off of his absurdly large yacht. The film appears to be reveling in the spending which, I think we all know, will inevitably lead to a downfall. All those good times will assuredly bring everything crashing down on the yuppies and Scorsese looks poised to make it fully enjoyable.

Derek was the only engineer at Northeastern University taking a class on German film and turning a sociology assignment into an examination of Scorsese’s work. He blatantly abuses his Netflix account, but can never seem to get his Instant Queue below 200. Now working for the government, he fights the stigma that being good at math means you are not any no good at writing. I good write, very much. Follow Derek on Twitter @DerekDeskins.
