The Wolverine: 10 Movies That Influenced James Mangold
5. Black Narcissus (1947) Michael Powell and Emmerich Pressberg's 1947 movie about the tensions that occur between a group of nuns living in the Himalayas might not sound as though it has any business being associated with a film about a mutant doing the rounds in Japan, though we're certain that James Mangold has good reason for citeing Black Narcissus as one of his many influences: the visual aspects in Black Narcissus are, to put it simply, breathtaking. And as you can see from the image that Mangold selected to highlight this influence, he's likely used Narcissus' cinematography as a basis for his own on The Wolverine. We can, in fact, imagine Logan peering off the edge of a Japanese skyscraper in a similar manner (I mean, just like at the moody poster with Wolverine on a rooftop clutching a katana).
