The Wolverine: 10 Movies That Influenced James Mangold

4. 13 Assassins (2010) Directed by infamous Japanese provocateur Takashi Miike, 13 Assassins is a balls to the wall, all-out samurai explosion. Loosely based on historical fact, the movie is a remake of a 1963 black-and-white flick of the same name (one which, as you'd imagine, is far less violent). Entertaining, brilliantly-rendered and purposely lacking in CGI, 13 Assassins is one of the most simple enjoying samurai flicks ever made. And as to just how Miike's movie might have influenced The Wolverine is kind of a no brainer, given that pretty much everybody who is interested in seeing James Mangold's Japan-based comic book adventure is really just looking forward to seeing Logan wielding a samurai sword (preferably whilst using his claws at the same time). If the action is anything like it is in 13 Assassins, it's going to be one hell of a ride.
