The World’s End: 10 Reasons to Be Excited

5. Spaced Humour

Years back, when it was still uncool to be a geek, I was one of the rare few in my tiny town (at least who I knew of) that had fully embraced geek culture as a way of life. It got pretty lonely, from time to time. Then Spaced, the British sitcom that originally secured Pegg and Wright the mantle of geek cult overlords, came into my life. Spaced showed me that it was okay to be uncool, that it was absolutely fine to be unhealthily obsessed with geek culture, that I wasn't alone, I was one of millions. And it did all that while being consistently one of the funniest shows on British TV. If you watch back through the Three Flavours Cornetto series, through Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, you can perceive so many elements that have been carried through from Spaced: the pacey, whip-pan cinematography; the strong counter-cultural themes and references and perhaps most importantly, the incredibly witty sense of humour. The hilarious, tea-snorting, ocular blood-vessel bursting sense of humour. Don€™t get me wrong; Shaun of the Dead was a Zombie movie, full on. But it was hilarious. Hot Fuzz; it was a buddy cop movie down to its core but again, it was hilarious. You could probably pop down to the bookies and place a bet on the fact that The World€™s End will be fully grounded in the genre it€™s been placed it in, while also still being, you guessed it, hilarious. If you ever found Spaced funny, I feel safe in practically guaranteeing you€™ll find your chuckles in spades with The World€™s End. The only thing I could possibly be more excited about is maybe a third series of Spaced itself; since that€™s probably never going to happen, The World€™s End will have to do. And do it will, my friend. Do it will€
