3. The People Are The Problem
As I mentioned before, the townsfolk seem to be in on the secret much like the otherwise sleepy Sandford dwellers in Hot Fuzz. But this time round it seems that the humble folk in Newton Haven (these guys use some awesome fictional names for towns) are not of this world, as opposed to just psychos who meet up in church ruins with hooded cloaks. They have blue light that shines out of their eyes and mouths, and seem to be intent on ending the lives of our intrepid heroes. So it would be safe to assume they are aliens. But why are they in this village? What are they hiding? Why are they after our guys? Like any good trailer, not too much is given away but we can surmise that they don't like outsiders here. Speaking of hating people who aren't local, we have a nice Reece Shearsmith cameo to boot, after his infamous role of Edward the shopkeeper who hates anyone that isn't from round these parts in the amazingly dark The League Of Gentlemen (yet another gem you should watch if you haven't). There's nothing worse than walking into an unknown pub and having everyone turn around and falling silent. And this movie looks set to take that experience and increase it tenfold. I grew up somewhere where I often thought that the townspeople were aliens. It still wouldn't surprise me if it were true. Our local town tramp Nutty Pam was probably the ringleader.
