In House of Cards, Corey Stoll proved he had the acting chops to turn a villain into a sympathetic and nuanced character.

Despite his talent, his performance in Ant-Man as Darren Cross AKA Yellowjacket comes across as one-note. As he kills sheep, shrinks his rivals, and shouts lines like "I'm gonna incinerate you!", he sounds more like a cartoon character than an authentic threat. He has no backstory so you don't care about his motivation.

Why the casting director hired a such a talented actor if they were just going to waste him in a thankless role is anyone's guess.
