Thor: 10 Times The MCU Movies Were Better Than The Comics
3. He Doesn't Need Mjolnir
Due to his Asgardian heritage, Thor has superstrength, superspeed, a healing factor, and a myriad of other powers. But what makes Thor the champion of Asgard is his ability to control lightning. While wielding his mighty mallet, Mjolnir, Thor can face off against virtually any being in the cosmos.
So, when Molecule Man, the Silver Surfer, the Destroyer, and Perrikus shattered the enchanted hammer, Thor found himself unable to command the elements. Even though the prince of Asgard is still astoundingly strong, he can be easily overpowered by gods and cosmic entities if he does not have his prized weapon.
But in Thor: Ragnarok, our hero's power-set was tweaked. After Hela reduced Mjolnir to dust, Thor couldn't see how he could possibly defeat her. But after speaking to Odin, Thor realised the hammer was merely a conduit, and his ability to call upon thunder and lightning was within him all along. Watching Thor using his newfound powers to obliterate Hela's forces moments after he thought he couldn't win was one of most visually stunning and satisfying moments in the entire MCU.
