Indeed, between now and Thor 3, it's hard to believe anything will happen off-screen to remove Loki from his wrongful place on Asgard's throne - and that could spell disaster for the realm that craves peace. Having Loki sitting as the King of Asgard means that the entire place is rotten to the core and goodness knows what plans he has for the place, and what he might do with that level of power at his disposal. He has access to the Tesseract, authority to instruct the warriors of Asgard to do whatever he pleases and is in a position to represent Asgard all over the known universe in the same way Odin did for so long. Loki's craving for power will not stop at the throne of his home realm. He will look to wage war on other realms in order to lord over as many beings as possible - and that means the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe could be at risk.
