Thor: The Dark World Spoilers - 10 Major Plot Points Discussed

5. Ian Boothby

Thor Dark World 18 Where did this character come from? Who thought it was entirely necessary to give Darcy, Jane's intern, her very own intern in the form of bumbling British nice-guy Ian Boothby? Don't get me wrong: there's nothing wrong with Ian as a character, and he provides a few of Thor: The Dark World's best jokes, but I would have liked to have been at the meeting where they conjured up this character and decided to put him in. Fundamentally, of course, Ian serves as a character for Darcy to interact with when she's doing her schtick (given that Jane and Selvig aren't always around), and alternates between being a bit dim-witted (you'll know what I mean when you see the scene with the car keys) and surprisingly heroic whenever the plot requires it. It's not even spoiler-ish to say that - uh-huh - Ian also provides Darcy with her own love interest by the time the movie wraps up. Does Darcy - a secondary character if ever there was one - even need a love interest? No, probably not... but it's funny anyway.
