5. Ian Boothby
Where did this character come from? Who thought it was entirely necessary to give Darcy, Jane's intern, her very own intern in the form of bumbling British nice-guy Ian Boothby? Don't get me wrong: there's nothing wrong with Ian as a character, and he provides a few of Thor: The Dark World's best jokes, but I would have liked to have been at the meeting where they conjured up this character and decided to put him in. Fundamentally, of course, Ian serves as a character for Darcy to interact with when she's doing her schtick (given that Jane and Selvig aren't always around), and alternates between being a bit dim-witted (you'll know what I mean when you see the scene with the car keys) and surprisingly heroic whenever the plot requires it. It's not even spoiler-ish to say that - uh-huh - Ian also provides Darcy with her own love interest by the time the movie wraps up. Does Darcy - a secondary character if ever there was one - even need a love interest? No, probably not... but it's funny anyway.
