Thor Ragnarok: 10 Big Questions From What We Know So Far

1. Is Asgard Set To Be Destroyed?

This one€™s the biggie €“ after all of Kenneth Branagh€™s world-building in Thor, and given the limitless potential for more stories to be told in an this setting, will Thor: Ragnarok really destroy Asgard? Audiences are being encouraged to believe in the idea of an Asgardian apocalypse, but will this actually happen or will our heroes find a clever way to stop it? It€™s tough to call, but since Marvel Studios films are often criticised for lacking large enough stakes, I€™d like to think that the powers-that-be have at least considered destroying Asgard once and for all during Ragnarok. With Infinity War just around the corner, demolishing the home world of the gods would be great way to prove to audiences that survival isn€™t always a given in the MCU. It would also open a few doors for interesting stories. When Asgard has been destroyed in the comics, surviving gods have often made new homes on Earth. That feels like it could be a plotline for a future movie, or at least an interesting area for Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. to explore. Gods walking among us, distraught and humbled by their failure to save their own home planet, sounds like an idea with deep storytelling potential. But will Marvel have the balls to follow through on the promise of an Asgardian apocalypse, making Ragnarok be the first true disaster movie of the MCU? Only time will tell, but I really hope so.
