The MCU isn't always as keen as fans might hope to the source, and while there is a lot of talk that Ragnarok will avoid closely adapting the comic arc of the same name, a more recent event in Thor's universe might well happen. The appearance of a new, female Thor. There are two possibilities here: either the MCU could follow the comic universe and have Jane Foster take over the mantle (which would finally give Natalie Portman something to do) or another female character might take over. If Marvel balk at the prospect of killing Thor, they might instead have him retire or ascend to the throne of Asgard, vacating the God Of Thunder role for Lady Cif to take on in the aftermath of the civil war. The Evidence Well, the revelation of the female Thor in the comics universe has been the biggest news for fans of Asgard in years, and if good sense was evidence, the crowning of a new God Of Thunder with different chromosomes would be top of Kevin Feige's bill. And the announcement that Lady Sif is back for the sequel before anyone else has been announced does seem symbolic if you're looking for more reason.
