Thor: Ragnarok - Every Character Ranked Worst To Best
6. Valkyrie
In comparison to Natalie Portman's Jane Foster, Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie is a major step forward: she has her own backstory, her own arc of development and you'd happily watch her in her own movie. She also has character flaws and quirks that are a little unexpected, and her sort of grumpy Mad Max vibe is a great direction.
She's great, but she's not quite the scene-stealer the early reviews suggested - not that that's a problem, as her dynamic with Thor and Hulk means you very quickly fall for the collective charms of the new team (which is very key) without her being swallowed into the collective and losing her identity immediately.
The best thing about Valkyrie is that you will come out of Ragnarok wanting to see more of her, which is testament to her immediate impact. She fits easily into the mythology and improves it, and while her accent flits a little, she's mostly a very good new addition.
