Thor: Ragnarok - Everything We Know So Far

2. New Villainous Additions To The MCU...

Thor Ragnarok
Marvel Studios & Sony Pictures Classics

Ragnarok's cast is absolutely stacked with A-list talent, thanks in large part to its bevy of new additions.

On the villainous side of things, the biggest new member of the Marvel family is Cate Blanchett, who'll be playing Hela - also known as the Goddess of Death.

In the comics, Hela curses Thor with eternal life and brittle bones, leaving him incapable of dying but extremely vulnerable to any and all attacks.

The second big addition is Karl Urban as Skurge the Executioner, Asgardian warrior and Thor's regular comic-book antagonist. Though Skurge is typically Thor's adversary, he once helped our heroes out by destroying Naglfar, the ship of the dead, stalling Ragnarok in the process.

Grandmaster Jeff Goldblum
Marvel

And lastly, the illustrious Jeff Goldblum will be entering the fray as the Grandmaster, an ancient being who's all about games. Not the PS4 kind, but rather, games involving manipulating other, 'lesser' beings.

While Grandmaster isn't an outright villain, it's speculated that he is the one who sets up the gladiatorial battle between Thor and Hulk, so he's hardly a saint.
