Thor Ragnarok Reviews: 12 Early Reactions You Need To See

6. It Works As A Self-Contained Story

In the past few months, we've been primed to believe that Ragnarok was going to be a stand-alone movie that could even inspire a new Thor series (should it be successful, of course), and according to Eric Eisenberg, the studio have managed to pull it off.

It's an intriguing concept, given the fact that we're so close to Infinity War's release with the final Infinity Stone yet to be revealed and earlier talk of Ragnarok being a major step towards the show-down with Thanos. But Guardians Of The Galaxy - and Spider-Man: Homecoming, for that matter - proved that stand-alone MCU stories that still feed into the grander narrative in more subtle ways can be achieved well.

And as Esisenberg says, the character work is key to making it work: without that weight of plot, they have more space to blossom, and looking at the proase of performances in the movie, it looks like it's been the right decision.
