Thor: Ragnarok Trailer Reactions: 7 Ups & 3 Downs
6. The Sci-Fi Feel
After Thor: The Dark World tried a little too hard to blend a Game Of Thrones hard-fantasy approach with the MCU - with an absolute lack of self-awareness - dropping Ragnarok into a wholly different genre was always going to be welcome.
By the look of it, Taika Waititi is delivering on his promise to make the sequel feel like a 1980s sci-fi, but this new trailer actually makes it feel like it owes something to the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy. That might not necessarily be a comfortable parallel for a lot of fans, but the characters and off-world settings introduced in this trailer absolutely look like they've been ripped out of George Lucas' imagination.
Hopefully the film will have the substance to back those visuals up (there are currently no fears in that regard), but you have to admire the boldness of this new direction.
