Thor: Ragnarok - What The Ending Really Means

2. The Grandmaster COULD Return

By the end of the film, Jeff Goldblum's hilarious Grandmaster has been unseated by the Sakaarian warrior rebellion, with his palace seemingly overrun and his empire lying in ruin.

The first post-credits sequence sees him climbing out of some wreckage - along with a couple of concubines - and congratulating the victorious rebels on their victory. He also congratulates himself, as they wouldn't have been able to rebel without someone to rebel against. It's a beautiful final touch to his story.

But crucially, he isn't killed, and even if the scavengers he meets in the junkyard receive him aggressively, their leaders who led the coup are now off planet, and they have no defence against the Grandmaster's loquaciousness, which is probably what got him to the top of Sakaar's ladder in the first place.

Even if he doesn't make it back to that sort of position, he'll probably get out of there alive, and hopefully we'll get to see an Elders of the Universe reunion between him and Benicio Del Toro's The Collector.
