5. Pee Wee's Big Adventure (1985)
I dont care what anyone says. It might be one of Tim Burtons earliest and least mature films, as well as structurally a bit of a mess, but I absolutely adore Pee Wees Big Adventure. Starring Paul Reubens as the bow-tied man child Pee Wee, his first big screen adventure sees him trekking across America to find his beloved stolen Bike. Its a journey which takes him from his bizarre gadget filled home, to the outskirts of Texas and eventually to a fantastic finale at the Warner Bros studios in California. Ridiculous, inventive, and good fun for both children and adults, Pee Wees Big Adventure deserves to be regarded as highly as many of Burtons more respected films which came after the success of this bizarre debut. Its a travesty that to this day the film isnt available in the U.K on DVD or Blu-ray, meaning that the film is something of a little seen oddity in this country - despite now being considered a true cult-classic.
Honorable Mentions: Big Fish, Batman, Sweeney Todd, Sleepy Hollow.
