1. Planet of the Apes (2001)
Tim Burtons 1999 remake of Planet Of The Apes is both his worst film and his least recognizable. Carrying little of the qualities that often define his work, its a dull and lifeless retread of the superior 1969 original starring Charlton Heston. It lacks pretty much everything that worked in the original in favor of a glossy big-budget production which fails to excite or stand on its own two feet, especially in the wake of last years amazing reboot Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. Its a curious mess of a film which seems like it was doomed from the very start. The material itself simply doesnt click with Burtons style of filmmaking, and itself is lacking in an identity which gives it reason to exist alongside the original. Poor Marky Mark is incredibly miscast as the marooned Leo Taylor, failing to give the role the charisma and gravitas that Charlton Heston gave as Taylor back in 1969. Then there's the infamous ending - an attempt to outdo the shocking twist of the original - which is laughably bad, managing to even befuddled those involved.
