Tim Burton: 5 Awesome Movies & 5 That Sucked

4. Corpse Bride (2005)

The Nightmare Before Christmas was so heavily stamped in Burton€™s style that despite being directed by Coraline€™s Henry Selick, it€™s still often accidentally referred to as a Tim Burton movie. Perhaps this is why he decided to go back to stop-motion animation for Corpse Bride, aiming to create a similarly successful family film of which he€™d actually have full control. Johnny Depp stars as Victor Van Dort, a meek man who finds himself inadvertently married to a zombie after practicing his wedding vows over a grave - we've all been there. Corpse Bride is actually quite charming and there€™s plenty of reasons to recommend it. It€™s deliciously dark - perhaps too dark for its intended family audience - with good voice acting and some stunning stop-motion animation. However, it€™s one of those unfortunate instances where the shadow of another film hangs over it, and Corpse Bride can€™t shake off comparisons with the superior The Nightmare Before Christmas. Here€™s hoping Frankenweenie will be a better received return to stop-motion animation for Burton.
