6. Pale Make-Up, Because Of Reasons
Offenders: Dark Shadows, Edward Scissorhands, Corpse Bride, Frankenweenie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sleepy Hollow, Batman Returns Burton's got kind of a 'thing' for pale people, hasn't he? And by 'thing', I mean a '
thing', you know? I mean, he's dating Bellatrix LeStrange, after all. This one is one of the strangest cliches on the list because there really is no reason for it. I mean, I know in Dark Shadows it was used to show Johnny Depp was a vampire (because it was such a mystery) and in Corpse Bride it was used to make the living characters look dead and unhappy compared to... the actual dead people, but other than that it really is just Burton shoving his style in our faces. 'THIS IS A TIM BURTON MOVIE, YOU SHALL TREAT IT AS SUCH,' her face-paint seemed to say. Again, I never really noticed this until Dark Shadows, but when you do notice it's almost impossible not to be completely distracted whenever it comes up. And yes, I am finishing this entry without mentioning the Joker. Live with it.
