16. Alice In Wonderland (2010)
Not only is
Alice In Wonderland the worst film in Tim Burton's long canon, it's also an insult to its source material. Lazy, dull and excessively computer-animated to erroneous means, Burton throws every one of his tricks into the pot and comes up with a bland, uninspired and - worst of all - mind-numbingly boring adaptation of Lewis Carroll's bizarre classic. What's worse, this is clearly a missed opportunity for the otherwise talented filmmaker, given that a far darker and more menacing take on Carroll's Underland would have helped the movie out from the realms of mediocrity. Johnny Depp, who appears here as the Mad Hatter, phones in another "quirky" performance, whilst an otherwise talented cast (including the likes of Stephen Fry and Anne Hathaway) are simply wasted. The film itself - which plods from one ugly set-piece to another - is ultimately exhausting to watch, and reeks of Disney compromise. If you need a film to argue that Tim Burton is merely a competent hack,
Alice In Wonderland is your best chance at success: a true cinematic waste on every level.
