15. Dark Shadows (2012)
For the most part, the 21st century has not been kind to Tim Burton's pictures, and
Dark Shadows - his most recent live-action endeavor - is the kind of final nail in the coffin with regards to the man's dwindling popularity. As an exercise in "A Tim Burton Film," this is the kind of half-assed effort that take Burton back to the drawing board and have him re-thinking his entire game plan: it's seriously time to change things up. Which is to say, the "quirky Tim Burton/Johnny Depp" formula dies a embarrassingly painful death in
Dark Shadows, a movie adaptation of a relatively obscure '80s TV show. Once again, Depp is in full-on Johnny Depp mode, though Burton can't seem to find the right tone for the piece. Is it supposed to be dark? Is it a comedy? Is is all supposed to one giant campy farce? Unsatisfying and muddled,
Dark Shadows is one Tim Burton film that deserves only to be buried - and preferably not alive.
