11. Batman Returns (1992)
Burdened with the success of his first Batman movie, Tim Burton was pressured into delivering another hit with his Dark Knight follow-up, Batman Returns. And generally speaking, he didn't disappoint fans too badly, though there are far more flaws inherent in this outing than in its predecessor. With Michael Keaton back on the horse as Bruce Wayne, the film isn't lacking in charisma, though Michelle Pfeiffer puts in a fairly dull performance. Luckily Danny DeVito is on hand as the Penguin to spice things up considerably, though many would be quick to admit that Returns hasn't aged as well as the original, and suffers from a fair degree of directorial confusion (the fight scenes, for example, are relatively uninspired). Still, this is Burton doing what Burton does best, and it remains a confident, aptly dark and enjoyable Batman instalment.
