12. Sleepy Hollow (1999)
Sleepy Hollow walks a tightrope between mediocrity and inspired brilliance, though the end result is nothing more than a vaguely enjoyable movie with some spellbinding production design. Johnny Deep is on board again for Tim Burton's re-telling of Washington Irving's tale of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman, and is both likeable and charismatic in the lead role. Though the picture starts out as genuinely intriguing (and often creepy) fare,
Sleepy Hollow soon enough loses its way admist its twists and turns, and as a result, the interest of its audience. Sadly for actress Christina Ricci, playing Katrina Van Tassel, she lacks any true on-screen chemistry with Depp, denying the film a proper romantic edge. There's much to like about
Sleepy Hollow - and many of Burton's best traits are on show - but it ultimately remains a fairly forgettable flick.
