Titanic: How It Should Be Re-Cast In 2021
6. Spicer Lovejoy - Alistair Petrie
Spicer Lovejoy might not seem like the most vital piece of this film's puzzle at first glance. But, as the secondary antagonist and muscle for Cal Hockley, he's a big part of adding conflict for Jack and Rose's romance. Without him, a lot of the tension would be gone.
The character is quite a simple role, as he comes along to intimidate Jack and establish order for his boss. But that makes it all the more important to find someone compelling and convincing even in more stoic performances. Thanks to that, all roads point to Sex Education's Alistair Petrie.
Petrie has a naturally commanding presence that makes him frightening and filled with authority. His solid and still face paints the picture of someone willing to get their hands dirty, emitting the right amount of danger.
To add here, Petrie also thrives at adding depth to his characters, as even when he's taking on smaller, less significant roles, he still brings a sense of history to them. You can see this from his parts in Rogue One, Rush and more.
