Tom Cruise And Katie Holmes To Divorce After Five Years Of Marriage

People Magazine are reporting that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are to divorce after five years of marriage. It is unclear what the cause for the break up is but Katie Holmes' attorney said;

"This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family, Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."

A spokesperson for Tom Cruise told the BBC it was Katie who filed the divorce papers;

"Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy."

After breaking up with his second wife Nicole Kidman, 49-year-old Cruise married now 33-year-old Holmes in a lavish wedding ceremony held in an Italian castle in November 2006. They have a six year old daughter together called Suri. The couple ''affectionately'' known as TomKat have spent most of their relationship being ridiculed for being, well a bit weird. It all began with Cruise's strange public declaration of love when he jumped up and down on Oprah's couch. Since then, Holmes has gone from a rising actress to what some people describe as a ''stepford wife.'' News of the breakup has been greeted with similar cynicism with forums filling up with comments such as;

Maybe the wives can't deal with the 3rd person in their marriages ** Scientology** And the next beard will be? He's free to find love with John Travolta now.
