An underappreciated gem which, as well as being a flawless film in its own right, was a stepping stone for more than one highly talented Brit on their way up. The directorial début of Matthew Vaughn, it was also saw the toughening up of a pre-Bond Daniel Craig, and gave Tom Hardy the minor role of Clarkie.

Working closely with Craig's "businessman whose commodity happens to be cocaine", he's first seen utilising his knowledge of chemistry, but his other talents are soon put to use when dealing with, and tracking down, the boisterous Duke. An early role, but one which for a number of reasons seems rather fitting for Hardy.

Introduced as having a double first from Cambridge in Industrial Chemistry, Clarkie isn't the only one with a close relationship to the white powder. After Star Trek Nemesis failed to deliver in terms of Hardy's career as much as at the box office, he turned to addiction as "an inability to accept life on its own terms."

More than this though, much like Hardy's presence in the film, Clarkie might not be at the front of the action, but puts in the effort to get the results that are needed. Working closely with those more experienced than themselves, both do all they can to learn from those they work with, helping themselves to move on to bigger and better things.
