2. The Impossible

Set against the backdrop of the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, The Impossible tells the almost-true story of the Bennet family as they try to stay alive and stay together in the face of overwhelming tragedy. Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor and our Tom all give the performances of their lifetimes for J.A. Bayona's direction.

While the Bennet family (based loosely on the real-life Maria Belon and her family) are on a Christmas vacation in Thailand. The Tsunami hits on Boxing Day and the family are separated amidst the wave of human misery as thousands of people try to recover some small fragment of their lives from the water.

Our Tom plays the oldest child of the family, Lucas, who is at first with his mother and then parted from her and told that she has died. At only 17 years old when filming, this movie was a major achievement for Tom and everyone else involved. The Impossible was heavily acclaimed and deeply moving in the end.

Still bitter that Star Trek Enterprise got canned and almost old enough to angrily tell the kids to 'Get Off My Lawn!'
