Tomb Raider Review: 4 Ups & 5 Downs

1. It's One Of The Best Video Game Movies

All things considered, Tomb Raider is one of the best video game movies. In terms of "serious" adaptations, it might be the best - and it's currently the best-reviewed - though its self-regarding nature also means it's ultimately nowhere near as fun as, say, Mortal Kombat or Resident Evil (both Paul W.S. Anderson movies, horrifyingly enough).

Still, the acting and visuals are leagues ahead of most other video game films, so it's just a shame the boring script and rather self-serious approach stop it from being a truly enjoyable romp.

It's something of a step forward for these kinds of movies, even if there are clearly still a lot of lessons to be learned when crafting a big-budget movie out of a beloved video game.
