7. The Big Chill

I am, of course, only referring to their acting, and not their dancing which is abysmal. In the Big Chill, we're invited to share in the reunion of a group of friends, brought together by the suicide of one of their own. We follow them as they play off each other and try to figure out where to go from there. Most who saw the film loved and appreciated the deft tone it struck between human comedy and drama. Kasdan knew how to give the audience a laugh when the mood became too dark. I find it hard to believe, however, that any audience member could find its mid-movie dance break a relief from the sorrows of the film. The reunited friends were in college together during the 60's, so its only natural they would want to get down and funky to the Temptation's classic "Ain't To Proud To Beg". Sadly, when Kevin Costner committed hari-kiri he took any sense of rhythm the group had with him to the grave. Also, why did Kasdan make Glenn Close's butt the focal point of the scene? There are enough butt shots in this scene to make to the members of 2 Live Crew blush.
