https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwhMN0_X3AA In Jackie Chans directional debut, he fights Taiwanese martial arts master and Lo Wei Motion Pictures regular Ricky Cheng. Prior to this, Chan had found very little luck under contract with Lo Wei Motion Pictures as Lo Wei really wanted to market Chan as the next Bruce Lee instead of allowing him to do his own thing. After putting Chan on loan with Seasonal Films, he put out two box office hits after another with famous choreographer and director Yuen Woo Ping (who would later do the action scenes for such Hollywood classics as Kill Bill, The Matrix and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon), which resulted in Lo Wei allowing Chan full creative control on his movies. Chan directing, writing and choreographing showcases both his and Chengs talents with hand to hand combat as well as their timing skills, as Cheng tries to slice Chans character with a sword but always narrowly misses. So the audience is aware that the sword isnt blunt, one of the actors is forced to have a banana in his mouth which Chengs character accidentally slices it in half while trying to get to Chan. The movie was such a big hit in China that Jackie Chan got a deal with Hong Kongs biggest film company; Golden Harvest. This movie would also serve as an inspiration for the Japanese manga and anime line; Dragonball and Chans character served as an inspiration for Dragonballs main character, Son-Goku.
