6. Jackie Brown
I debated between this and Reservoir Dogs in the five slot. But I decided to go for Jackie Brown because it has a little more spice and panache as far as the Los Angeles culture is concerned. Quentin Tarantino's 1997 follow up to his smash sensation Pulp Fiction exists on a different, calmer, cooler plane than its predecessor. Pam Grier is the star of this ensemble, involving gun runners, bail bondsmen, and one brilliantly obnoxious surfer chick (Bridget Fonda). Tarantino captures the other side of Los Angeles; not the dark side mind you, but the side where Hollywood never smiles anymore, where these characters live here because it is their home.
