1. Edmund Gwenn - Miracle on 34th Street

A genuine Oscar winner, and the most charming Santa Claus of all. Really, how could it have been anyone else? Gwenn brought the perfect magical touch to the character, with the same endearing appeal that Attenborough did, but with slightly more finesse and poise. He is the definitive Santa Claus, without the Coca-Cola influenced look (the big bushy, curly beard), and he sets the standard. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
