Top 10 Physically Disabled Film Characters

7. Aron Ralston - 127 hours (2010)

Danny Boyle's '127 hours' is another true story in which Aron Ralston, played by James Franco, became stuck in a canyon with his arm trapped beneath a boulder. After going just over five days stuck in this position he is forced to cut off his own arm with a pen knife in order to survive.

The audience isn't given Ralston's struggle to adapt to missing a limb nor does it make any commentary about the treatment of disabled people but it's a helluva story and an incredibly visceral look at the initial accident that results in the loss of a limb. if you choose to delve into Ralston's real-life experiences post-accident you find it didn't stop him from mountain climbing as he became the first person to climb all 53 of Colorado's 'fourteeners' solo in winter, a project he started before losing his arm.

Pretty inspirational stuff.
