Top 10 Physically Disabled Film Characters

6. Professor X €“ X-Men Franchise

Representing the super heros in this list is good old Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart & James McAvoy) whose wheel chair is a massive part of his identity and not one that ever holds him back.

As we saw in the the more recent X-men: First Class (and differing from Comic book canon) Charlie lost the use of his legs after Magneto accidentally deflected a bullet into his spinal chord. Charles goes on to become a major representative for the mutant community and the leader of the good guys for all the other movies.

Although none of the X-men movies really 'deal with' his disability in any depth (aside from the afore mentioned initial accident) it's nice to think it's because they don't have to. He's a super hero like all the others in the movie and he's often the one the villains have to take care of first unless they like the idea of mentally being turned into little girls and having Jean braid their hair.

A snarky Wolverine actually makes fun of Prof. X's wheelchair in the first X-men leading to (in my my mind) one of the greatest lines in cinematic history.
