Top 10 Tim Burton Characters

8. Lydia Deetz

Lydia

Played by: Winona Ryder

Appeared in: Beetlejuice (1988)

Many Tim Burton films include a young offbeat character who doesn't really fit in with their family €“ Vincent from the short, er, Vincent, Alice of Alice in Wonderland and even Natalie Portman€™s character in Mars Attacks! - but perhaps the best of these in one of Burton€™s earliest films; Winona Ryder€™s €˜strange and unusual€™ Lydia. Moving into a home haunted by its previous owners, Lydia is less terrified than excited as she gets embroiled in another world more suited to her tastes than that of her interior-design obsessed step-mother. Ryder€™s also good in Edward Scissorhands but morose and melancholy Lydia Deetz is her definitive Burton role.
