Top 10 Tim Burton Characters
8. Lydia Deetz
Played by: Winona Ryder
Appeared in: Beetlejuice (1988)
Many Tim Burton films include a young offbeat character who doesn't really fit in with their family Vincent from the short, er, Vincent, Alice of Alice in Wonderland and even Natalie Portmans character in Mars Attacks! - but perhaps the best of these in one of Burtons earliest films; Winona Ryders strange and unusual Lydia. Moving into a home haunted by its previous owners, Lydia is less terrified than excited as she gets embroiled in another world more suited to her tastes than that of her interior-design obsessed step-mother. Ryders also good in Edward Scissorhands but morose and melancholy Lydia Deetz is her definitive Burton role.
